For a thorough computer tune-up/check-up, we perform the following 14 services:
1. Check System Memory (RAM)
We check to make sure your computer has the minimum amount of recommended RAM. RAM is the amount of memory Windows and your programs have available to them. The more RAM, the faster your computer will run, up to the limits of your Windows version.
What’s the Fix?
If your computer is low on RAM, we can order and install additional memory for your computer for an additional fee.
2. Check Service Pack Level
We check to make sure your computer has the latest Windows Service Pack installed. Service packs are major updates that include bug fixes, security fixes, and performance improvements. You should install the latest Service pack to keep your computer running at its best.
What’s the Fix?
If your computer needs a service pack, for an additional fee, we will download and install the latest service pack software for your computer and test to make sure the service pack installed correctly.
3. Check Hard Drive Size and Free Space
We check the size of your hard drive and the free space remaining to make sure you have adequate space to store your files and install new programs.
What’s the Fix?
If your hard drive is close to capacity, for an additional fee, we will take your computer to our shop, copy all your programs and files to a new, larger capacity hard drive. Then we’ll return and set up your computer test to make sure it’s functioning.
4. Check Windows Updates
We check that your computer is set to automatically download and install critical Microsoft security and performance updates.
What’s the Fix?
If your computer won’t install updates, for an additional fee, we can repair Windows so it operates correctly.
5. Check System Restore
We check to make sure Windows is saving periodic snapshots of your computer’s configuration. If a configuration problem should arise in the future, we can often restore the correct configuration as a troubleshooting step.
What’s the Fix?
If your computer will not save restore points, for an additional fee, we will troubleshoot and correct the problem.
6. Check Security Software & Updates
We inspect your antivirus software to make sure it has an active subscription and has installed current updates.
What’s the Fix?
If your computer needs anti-virus software, for an additional fee, we will install your choice of anti-virus software to help protect your computer from viruses and spyware.
7. Check Firewall Status
We check to make sure your computer has a firewall turned on. A firewall is an important component of computer security. It regulates incoming and outgoing traffic.
What’s the Fix?
If your firewall won’t turn on, for an additional fee, we troubleshoot and correct the problem.
8. Check Disk Health
We check to see if Windows is reporting a problem with your hard drive.
What’s the Fix?
If Windows reports an error with your hard drive, for an additional fee, we will replace the hard drive.
9. Check Disk Defragmentation
We check the status of the hard disk defragmentation program. This program helps speed up your computer by reorganizing the file on your hard drive.
What’s the Fix?
If the disk defragmentation program is not running, for an additional fee, we will troubleshoot and resolve the problem.
10. Optimize Startup Programs
We stop unneeded programs from running, which can increase your computers’ performance.
11. Check Event Log
We check the system event log of your computer for items that need immediate correction or may need future attention.
What’s The Fix?
For an additional fee, we will correct any problems found.
12. Remove Temporary Files
We’ll remove temporary files, which will free up space on your hard drive, and can increase performance.
13. Check Internet Browser Security Settings
We check to make sure that Internet Explorer is configured with normal security settings in order to reduce the chance that your computer will get infected with viruses, spyware, pop-ups, etc.
What’s the Fix?
If there are problems with Internet Explorer, for an additional fee, we will correct them.
14. Check Backup Routine
We check to make sure your backup routine is running as scheduled.
What’s the Fix?
If you don’t have a good backup routine, for an additional fee, we will install a backup device on your computer and set up a backup routine to make sure your important information is backed up. We also recommend setting up a cloud-based backup.
