Working From Home Options

To help slow down/stop the spread of the Coronavirus, we’re being encouraged, (Possibly required soon), to work from home whenever possible.

I wanted to share a proven solution that may work for many of you. (If your company has an IT department or vendor, please check with them, as there are other solutions that they may have in place or are considering).

We have been deploying this solution for many years, with excellent results. 
The solution is called GoToMyPC. GoToMYPC is a service that allows you to connect to your work (Host) computer from another (Remote) computer and use all your software and access all your files.

Definitions
Host computer: The computer you are accessing from afar (your work computer).
Remote computer: the computer you’re using to access your host computer.

The advantages of GoToMyPC are
1. You don’t have to install any software on the Remote computer. You are actually signing in to the Host computer and can use all your software as-is.
2. You have access to all the files on your Host computer, without having to copy them to your Remote computer.
3. You can print your files from your Remote Computer (and/or have them print out in your Host computer’s location).
4. GoToMyPC works on both Macs and PC’s. you can even remotely work on a Mac from a PC and vice-versa.
5. You can purchase a subscription on a month-to-month or annual basis. If you’re just going to use it during this emergency, month-to-month is the best option.

Setting up GoToMyPC is pretty simple
1. Use your web browser to go to www.gotomypc.com and start a free 7-day trial.
2. Create an account and password.
3. Download the software onto the computer you want to remotely access.
4. Create an access password for the remote computer.

To access your computer remotely
1. Use your web browser to go to gotomypc.com.
2. Login with your username and password.
3. Select your computer and click the connect button.
4. Enter the access password.
You will now be able to see your computer screen, and use the Remote computer’s mouse and keyboard to work on the Host computer just as if you were sitting in front of it.

Pricing for GoToMyPC:
1 computer is $44 per month, or $420 annually
2-50 computers are $41.50 per  computer per month, or $33 per computer per month annually.
If you have 10 or more computers you want to access remotely, check with GoToMyPC for other options.

Please note a few things:
1. Remotely accessing your Host computer will usually be a bit slower than if you were physically using it. Speeds will vary depending upon both Host and Remote computer speed, internet access speeds and internet traffic.
2. Your Host computer needs to stay turned on and be connected to the Internet in order to remotely access it.
