Daylight Savings Time Change

This year, Daylight savings time went into effect 3 weeks earlier than in previous years. It is important to update your computer, your PDA (Palm Pilot, Windows CE device, etc), and Microsoft Outlook. Otherwise, your computer and appointments could be off by one hour. If you need any assistance, please call us for help 925.283.5666.

Windows Vista & Microsoft Office 2007

On January 30, Microsoft released the latest versions of Windows and Office.

Windows Vista

Windows Vista is the first upgrade to Windows since 2001. It has many enhancements, including much improved security, new translucent windows (in some versions), automated maintenance and backup.

While all these new features are great, we recommend that our clients wait at least 6-12 months before buying a computer with Windows Vista. We think you should wait because there are always issues with new operating system-issues that most users don’t want to have to work through.  In a few months, most of the major issues will be resolved, so by waiting, you’ll have less headaches. Some of the problems we’ve seen are printer and video card software incompatibility and crashes, QuickBooks versions prior to 2007 will not work on Vista.

Microsoft Office 2007

We are very impressed with Microsoft Office 2007. Microsoft has changed the way the menus work, to make it easier to find the options most users need. The icons now change whenever you click on a menu.

 Tip of the Month

When entering a website address in Internet Explorer for Windows, just type the name of the website, and then press the  CTRL+ENTER. For example, if you’re going to visit Google, you would normally type www.google.com. You can just type google, and then press CTRL+ENTER.  Try it, it’s great.  Thanks to Maya Rappaport for this great tip! (PS, if this tip doesn’t work, then you may need to adjust your Internet Explorer options to turn on autocomplete)
