Solid-state drives are faster than traditional hard drives, which translates into better performance. Your hard drive is where all your software and files are stored, so make sure to get enough storage space to allow for growth for at least 5 years. 2. Get at least 12 GB of RAM. For those who keep a lot of windows open at the same time, or want more speed, get 16 GB of RAM or more. RAM is the equivalent of a physical desktop. Your operating system, every open software application, and every open document must be loaded into RAM. If your computer runs out of RAM, it must move something to your hard drive to free up RAM. This slows down your computer. 3. For most users, Get at least an Intel Core i5 processor, or AMD Ryzen 5 processor. These processors provide mid-range processing power (speed). If you are a power user, or just want more speed, get an Intel Core i7, AMD Ryzen 7, Core i9, or AMD Ryzen 9. Holiday Security Tips This time of year brings out the bad guys, so please be extra careful when clicking on any links or opening attachments in emails. Also, do not respond to pop-ups, emails or phone calls indicating your computer has a problem. These are virtually all scammers trying to steal your money. Quick Poll: We are thinking of creating some small stickers that you could put on your monitor or computer to remind you not to click on links, pop-ups, or respond to phone calls from scammers. Please let us know if this is something you’d like to have. If we get a good response, we’ll have these stickers created and send them to you with our compliments. Thank you for being part of our family. Happy Holidays and New Year. Ryan, & Edward Lamorinda Technology, Inc. |
